The clue is in the title. It explains why Haruhi is so angry (and
sad) at herself.

So far I've pushed it a tiny bit further.

After classes, we four literature club members went to a computer shop I
had seen and ad for in the newspaper. I pointed out the laptop that was on
special and then Haruhi haggled a discount on a printer to go with
it. Mikuru took the laptop home with her and I was ordered to carry in the
printer the next day.

On Thursday morning our class representative, Ryouko Asakura, walked over
to our corner before first period. "Miss Suzumiya, are you serious about
the literature club?"

"I've decided to study European Folktales this term."

"Seriously? When Yuki told me at supper last night that she only needed one
more member for her club I was quite surprised, even more so when she said
that it was yourself who had taken over the burden of leadership of the
club. Are you sure that you won't drop this one like all the others? If I
find out that you are toying with Yuki, I'll be quite cross."

"Yuki is mine. I will not abandon her."

The questions about all of this finally got the better of me and one of
them escaped my lips. "Miss Asakura, how long has Miss Nagato known Miss
Suzumiya?"

Haruhi snorted at this.

Ryouko crossed her left arm under her right elbow and rested her chin on
her right hand. "It's strange. I've known Yuki since the start of middle
school, and last night was the first time she's even mentioned Miss
Suzumiya. Well I just wanted to let you know that I've got my eye on you
two. Don't go pulling tricks on Yuki."

In the clubroom after classes, I guided Yuki through a standard setup for
Mikuru's new laptop.

"What are you looking for?" Haruhi asked, as I was peeking behind the
bookshelves.

"A network jack. Doesn't seem to be any in the room." I went back to the
laptop and reached over to try some things. "There is a wireless signal,
but it's password protected."

"Can't you crack that?" Haruhi asked.

"Really?" I turned to Yuki. "Yes?"

"Wouldn't the computer club down the hall know?"

"Yes!" Haruhi picked up the laptop. "Follow me girls and we'll get this
setup by them. Kyon, you stay here in case a fifth person for our club
shows up."

"I'm the only one who'd even understand what they're talking about."

"Nope. They'll be a bunch of smelly nerds, whom girls never talk to. We'll
use our feminine wiles and get limitless support for the price of a few
smiles, but only if it seems that they are the only men we poor weak girls
can depend on."

"That is devastatingly clever. Where did you suddenly pick up these social
skills, Haruhi?"

The other two girls looked at Haruhi with panicked expresssions, but she
calmly replied. "I read a book on how to influnce people. We are in the
literature club, after all."

The girls returned an hour later with a wireless connection and a basic
website for our club, set up by the computer club members.

On Saturday I got to the library at 5 minutes before nine and after a short
search, found the girls in the folklore section.

Haruhi looked up from a book. "You're late, Kyon."

"I'm here before the time you set."

"The last one is always late. So Kyon is treating us to lunch."

For the next two hours I was tasked with carrying books back and forth to
the shelves while the girls read and entered notes.

I had just placed a pile of books on the table when the three girls turned
as one to look at a wall.

"Here?" Haruhi asked. "Kyon, watch our stuff!" The three almost ran out of
the library.

What was that? I hadn't even heard anything. The minutes ticked by
without their return, so I sat in front of the laptop, saved their file and
configured the wireless connection for the library.

Over an hour later I was starting to get a little hungry when Haruhi said
from right behind me, "Is that even physically possible?"

I closed the web browser, too late, and looked over at her. "Where were you
and how did the three of you get so sweaty?"

"We went jogging. It gave us quite an appetite. Where to girls? Remember
that Kyon is paying for being late, and for being such a naughty boy."
