Yes and yeah, yeah, it is a bit muddled.

Things I've considered:

Mikuru sits down with Kyon and carefully explains how the Timey Wimey
Ball works over many many pages.

Shift away into a god's eye view, or a much much later Kyon and do the same.

Fill out the film and writing sequences.

Have Kyon remind Haruhi about her old elementary school friend, and
find out that crush was two-sided.

Back to The Shadow over Nishinomiya for now, where we'll soon discover
that Kyon has forgotten that he met Haruhi briefly one night in the
first year of middle school. After all, what is the worst place for a
protagonist to discover a monster in a HPL story?
