That's a very valid point. Personally I see it as up to the personal preferences of the administrator who takes the time to actually keep this thing running, and didn't mind once I learned how to properly format the story. I simply complemented it by linking to the intended format hosted at an outside source, for those who prefer it that way.
(Well, mostly intended. Mediaminer can tiresome with the é->gibberish, or odd .doc conversions for example, and fanfiction.net has mostly been nightmarish to me regarding the issue of keeping segments distinctly separated by empty rows, but I digress)
In any case, I definitely had no idea that asking this question would create such a widespread reaction, rather than a few concrete answers (which were generously provided by Adrian and Gary). I was simply hoping for an opportunity to get more experienced writers interested in my story, hopefully appreciate the effort, and give me some feedback. Oh well, all C&C is greatly appreciated, and anyone who wants a deliberately intensely unconventional, experimental, and ironic yarn can read the second part here: http://www.mediaminer.org/fanfic/view_st.php/152133/
It's much better than the first few chapters imho, and there is a brief summary available at the top.
Best Wishes
