I'm willing to switch to a more acceptable story.
How about Kyon gets the heck confused out of him by a Haruhi who
cycles between denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and a strange
calmness, until Itsuki points out what this means? The big clue would
be that Haruhi would be especially nice to little sister while at the
same time seeming to be very sad. And she would break out in nervous
laughter whenever The Truth was suggested to her.
Or is that too fnording obvious to use? To push the cliche up to 11,
have the ending start with a visit to her house, and her berserk
reaction when he touches the long unused doorknob to the forbidden
room.
But I'll try a rewrite of this story that puts Haruhi into troping
instead of bullying.
