"Hey Yuki."

Yuki, as expected, continued to read her book.

"Yuuuki." Mikuru gently poked her in the shoulder.

Yuki remained motionless, save for the quick darting
of her eyes over the text.

"Aww, you wouldn't ignore Haruhi like this."

"I am not ignoring you." Yuki turned a page. "I am
making sure this book is appropriate before leaving
it where Haruhi might take interest in it."

"What's so important about those books, anyway?"

"Do you know what happens on the occasion that
Haruhi reads and gets inspiration?"

"...yeah, I guess."

"Imagine what would happen if Haruhi were to read
more often, in particular if she were to read one of
the many stories where everyone behaved sufficiently
unimaginative that, in the reality that would result, no
one would be creative enough to write something that
could inspire Haruhi differently."

"..."

"She will be in a mood to read again soon, so I must
hurry." Yuki snapped the book closed, willed its
cover to fade to bland, anonymous colors, replaced it
on the library shelf, and pulled out the next book.
"That was the one hundred sixty seventh such work I
have reviewed this hour."

Five minutes later on the dot, Haruhi would interrupt
Yuki's reading with a complaint that she had broken
Mikuru again.
