Ranma was not certain which hurt more: when his bones
shattered, or when they were knit back together. What
he did know was that this was the fourth reset of the
universe that day, and each time it had come when Akane
ran out of targets at hand.
As he watched buildings uncrumble and blood flow back
into bodies, he tried to remember a happier time, before
he knew Akane. Those had been simpler days, with a lack
of detail that, in his darker moments, made him wonder
if he had been created with a fake past, just to be
Akane's main toy. But surely that was ridiculous.
Nabiki had voiced similar thoughts. Her attempts to
discuss them with Ranma had caused three of today's four
massacres, when Akane misinterpreted a quiet discussion
as Ranma hitting on Nabiki; the fourth was started by a
random Shampoo glomp. Nabiki persisted, continuing to
try to talk with blood-filled lungs even as Akane
shredded her sister by accident when aiming at Ranma.
Sometimes, Nabiki's sheer reserves of will unnerved him;
this was the only thing that allowed her to remember her
findings between incarnations.
She had been saying something about a pocket universe,
and that reality did not exist as far as it should.
Ranma would have shaken his head at that thought had his
neck finished reforming; even if they were trapped in
some artificial reality, which was a crazy thought, what
could they do about it? Further, Nabiki suspected this
reality was deliberately created by someone else, but
who would do such a thing?

Belldandy smiled, her meditation complete. Dumping her
anger, as Skuld had taught her to do, was so convenient.
She wondered what Skuld meant by her claim, "Even your
anger will be happy," but did not ponder it for long.
Urd's latest mess, which had triggered her need for
meditation, still needed to be cleaned up.
