Been watching too much of the live action BSSM, perhaps? 

The live-action Beryl reminded me at once of 'Rita Repulsa', in both her 
makeup and the way she hams it up. 
Not to mention the way the battle scenes are shot. 
I think I read somewhere that the director and much of the staff of 
BSSM-LA came largely from a background of shooting various Go-Ranger series.
