Actually, from what I understand she concluded by saying that a lot of  
Christian groups already hated her because of the witchcraft, and this just  gives 
them one more reason.  That alone makes me firmly believe that this  is just a 
stunt to garner more attention and keep the series alive since the  books are 
over with and all she has left are the movies.  She is just  trying to make 
headlines.
 
This won't affect the fan fiction at all.  Go look at any HP fan  fiction 
websites (aff for example) and you will see that Harry/Draco and  Harry/Snape are 
some of the most popular pairings.  As a whole I think the  fan fiction 
community is going to give a big 'Who cares?' about the fact that  one of the 
characters is gay.  The concept is already being done to  death.
 
 

She is  also reported to have concluded the above bit of news in this way:    
'"Oh, my god," Rowling concluded with a laugh, "the fan  fiction."'
