The word you may want is nuruma. The kanji for nu (温) is used in place names in Japan, so it’s probably an old one.

温むま Nuruma: Tepid, lukewarm
温むま湯 Nurumayu: Lukewarm water

Subject: [FFML] [Info?] Translation help/suggestions?

Hello,
It's been forever since I wrote any actual fanfics and it is debatable whether this is
a fanfic question (and what the correct tag should be), but I suddenly realised that
there might be someone here who could help me out...
Or at least have opinions.

Long story short: I've been working on a fictional and presumably not entirely
historically correct* late Tokugawa-period city for tabletop-RPG purposes.
As my Japanese is rudimentary enough to not blindly trust "dictionary Japanese",
I'm curious/worried what others would translate the various place and family names
(etc.) as into English (not back into English, strictly speaking, as the rest of the text
is currently in Swedish).

In particular, there are hints that there is a homonym(?) for the word I find for
"lukewarm, tepid" with very different meaning/connotations...
(Which could be a bit of an issue for a city that is currently called [Tepid Bay]
and located at the mouth of [Tepid River].)

Anybody willing and able to help?
(Yes, I did try checking with the locally/real life available suitable people I know,
so I think continuing that track may constitute pestering.)

*The motto has been "A careful combination of serious research, adapting facts
for entertainment purposes and a thousand loving lies". Also, the yokai kind of
complicate any attempts at strict realism.

Best regards,
Hans Holm
