I just realized that no one had posted news of this here.

On August 11, Aaron Peori (better known to fic readers as Epsilon,
co-author of "Hybrid Theory") passed away after a month of battling
the effects of what he initially called "the Martian Death Flu,
followed by a cardiac arrest on the 3rd.

The whole story played out in a thread on my forums that Epsilon
started about feeling ill, if anyone cares to read it:
