With some small amount of trepidation, I offer what commentary I can. Ignore it if it's not helpful.

Current events?

If he has amnesia, I'm putting 10$ on Zelazny's Prince of Amber series. Too beloved by fic writers to pass up.

Though, somewhat against me is the fact that amnesia is now trending up in Haruhi fics in general.

The 'it' in the second line seems to be referring to Mikuru's curves. Was it her uniform that Kyon's supposed to find familiar?

I mean this nicely, but I'm not going to point out every instance of dialogue/narration spillover, since this is something I've pointed out for you a lot already. But: There's no speech indicator, and you have narration leading into dialogue. (Those are two separate sentences, because there's no speech indicator to link them.)

> "And I'm..." I could almost feel it, "I'm sorry, I don't know who I am."

Exactly the same thing here.

Well your -- Well, your

That narration/dialog thing again....

Yeah, I think I got this.

This paragraph is made up of four sentences, but only has enough punctuation for two.
'Dear' is a form of address, and should have a comma before it. There's probably some rule about capitalizing it if you're using it in place of a proper name, but honestly, I haven't had my coffee yet, and am totally obsessing over punctuation.

Same as above, with regards to 'Sir'.

And again with regards to 'Doctor'.

Well physically -- Well, physically

observation -- observations (you are technically correct that it's multiple 'observations', but that whole period under which the observations are taking place are covered by the blanket event, 'observation'. (Crazy nuance.))

> "Now dear," her mother grabbed the girl's arms and pried them away from me,

Same comment regarding 'dear'.

Corwin: I'm _way_ better than Kyon.
Haruhi: Willing to bet on that?
Corwin: I can be a GREAT Kyon.
Haruhi: Ah, I see you've learned that I get what I want!
Corwin: ...Merlin, Ghostwheel; I need to call in a favor.

Ah, but seriously:

A comma is missing before 'Kyon'.

Suggest dropping second instance of 'left' from the first sentence.

Indeed, very amusing.

Hmm, then again -- all of the powers tend to be related in Amber, so I guess ... probably _any_ matchup is going to involve incest -- except (ironically) with his so-called 'sister'.

so called -- so-cal'ed

I'm guessing the current event is the Sendai earthquake? That's ... pretty far from Nishinomiya. (I also would have thougt 'recent' events instead of 'current' events, but I'm a stickler for things like that).

Kyon: Talking dismissively about our culture?
Mikuru: ...well, hopefully that, too, but I meant your dinner.

Somehow, considering that it implies a passage of time that's evidently negligable, I would suggest dropping 'later' from the first line, or replace it with 'shortly'.

shower then left -- shower, then left

Huh, here I note you already have so-called hyphenated.

Hmm....

hungry too Kyon -- hungry, too, Kyon

Somehow, it feels like it would be more natural to put single-quotes around 'the father' in this passage.

And again on the 'dear' nickname.

> "Oh yes yes!" The girl bounced in her seat, "Hurry hurry!" Then she turned

There are four missing commas, here. And the one after 'me' shouldn't be there.

> "Look dear, you're giving your brother a headache again."

Once more on comma/capitalization.

> "I'm sorry mom. I'll be quiet," the young girl turned to me, "That's okay
> Kyon?"

Should be a comma before 'mom', and it should be capitalized.

off oblivious -- off, oblivious

Not sure why, but I think the part about 'This little sister was starting to grow on me.', would be a good place to start a new paragraph.

So Son -- So, Son

> The next day an unfamiliar boy who seemed to be around my age came to our

Missing comma before 'Kyon'.

> "No I do not."

Missing comma after 'No'.

I'm going to give myself a break from pointing all of these out. Your commage is spotty -- there should be commas to separate clauses, anywhere you find yourself naturally pausing in speech, and where dialog leads into and out of narration. There is no reason to lead into dialogue/narrative with a comma if you lack a proper speech indicator. For example:

"Sample text for gramatical instruction purposes is a pain to write." Corwin then performed an action that was separate from his dialog, since it lacked a speech indicator.

"This example," Kyon protested, wheeling away from the Amberite's blade, "is not much fun for me either!"

"It's quite simple." To Corwin, it was as much as writ in the stars. "When two heroes meet, they have to fight."

"Seriously?" Haruhi looked unimpressed from where she watched the pair, remarking, "Who had the brilliant idea was it to invoke 'Let's You and Him Fight'?"

Wow, that was terrible. Still -- those are places where you would want to use commas in the dialog/narrative bridge. I could have sworn I mentioned this to you at one point before, but....

This is an amazing bit of dialog, because to be honest, after re-reading it a few times, it's really impossible to tell who's speaking. The first paragraph suggests that it's Kyon, because he turns to Haruhi, but then, Kyon's the one that missed a question, and the dialog....

I'm going to say speech indicators and dialog (the technical aspects of it) are areas you'll want to focus on.

Also, neither of them find their mutual amnesia suspicious?

Anyway. I think that first sentence may be a run-on, or at least can easily be chopped into two smaller sentences.

Irked about being outdone scholastically, and then dismissing it with an excuse? This is inconsistent on ... Kyorwin's? ... part.

Aw ... so Mikuru had their Shadows killed?

While you have made this Haruhi less sympathetic to me than the original (which is impressive), calling her a 'monster' while Kyon's still thinking what he does about Mikuru seems somehow a bit much. I think he'd go with something milder, like 'spoiled brat' or (hehe) 'annoying princess'.

> "None of them are interesting."

Haruhi: So are you, and that would be a better clue to the readers.
Kyon: Hush, we're re-hashing Melancholy, here.
Haruhi: Unless it features Kentucky Fried Lizard Parts, we're doing it wrong.
Kyon: I ... forgot that part of the original Amber Chronicles.
Haruhi: Crazy, huh?

Best dialog in the fic so far.

I think he can whisper this, since Haruhi's out of the room anyway.

I'm really unclear on how stomping makes Kyon halt. Did he catch his toes on the steps or something?

This was actually an interesting exchange. I like how she really doesn't care about having the tables turned on her, after the fact -- it's just an issue while it's happening.

Why didn't Kyon notice that Ryouko has significantly bluer hair?

Mph. I have a meeting; I'll finish this later.

> "But miss, student groups must have five or more members."

'Miss' is like 'Dear' or 'Sir'.

Something about this feels ... too rote from Melancholy -- like there's just not enough Amber influence on this scene -- and you've glossed over most of the compressed Melancholy arc so far, so it feels like you're expecting us to infer a lot that you didn't bother to imply. Ie., Kyon's relationship with Haruhi.

I have a suspicion on what might help address this, but I'll wait until the end (in case I'm wrong).

I think Kanji actually can be a proper name, but in this instance, it is not, and should not be capitalized.

Your 'disaster' is really confusing. It sends students 500 miles away from the original location into amnesia, delays school by a few months, and somehow, as disruptive as it is, the clubs are still all full?

Being honest, I don't see that it adds a thing to the story. In Amber, Corwin was in a car accident (or was told he was in) -- that's a lot more plausible, and so far, the 'disaster' has zero plot relevance, so it would just be pulling what looked like a plot thread (but actually wasn't). I'd suggest dropping it.

Not sure why he almost takes the paper from her. Is he upset? We really haven't been shown that, and he was discussing civily a moment ago.

all too cliche -- all-too-cliche (I think)

More of this implied interaction you're not showing us. What stress? You haven't shown us anything other than him getting his head hit once and generally not seeming to like her much. If that's bothering him so much, then why did he agree to join her club anyway?

I ... what? Haruhi mocked him? He just can't bear the thought she might?

More scenes that you suggest without clarifying. The idea that he wants a sword around Haruhi and slowly overcomes that reflex is (to me) kind of significant to gloss over like this.

Kyon's awful non-reactive to her throwing herself at him and implying that he and Haruhi are dating.

And ... this is first person. Is there any thought, or opinion going through Kyon while this is happening? He seems awfully docile, which I can see in Kyon to a degree, but less so for Corwin.

Wouldn't Ryouko have been better off shifting to her combat form, if they're followers of the Logrus?

Okay. So ... this is kind of long for a throwaway, and contains a few threads that drag it out without adding much to it. Among those are the 'disaster', and considering how it's not really used to great effect, probably I'd drop all instances of Kyon going for a sword except for the first and the last (the others don't feel meaningful). A lot of Kyon's interactions early on are kind of meaningless, because as soon as Kyon goes to school, his family mostly vanishes. Those could be shortened quite a bit, probably.

The Mikuru interactions don't especially feel informative, either -- especially considering the effective irrelevance of the reveal that she's not what she seems and Kyon doesn't trust her. And then she joins the Brigade anyway.

The Haruhi/Kyon dynamic is somewhat interesting, but you show us amazingly little; really, this probably deserves more attention than it's been given. Probably one thing that might help across the board is working more on Kyon's reactions to ... any given thing, actually. In retrospect, I don't think Kyon/Corwin is shown with a single emotion in this entire story, which is kind of bizzare.

What are those reasons? As I understand things, if Haruhi were a child of the Logrus and didn't know it, she might just be pulling everyone with her to another world when she walks, giving everyone there the impression that the world was created recently, or that she rewrote reality.

Heh. Might actually explore that later....

....anyway. I enjoyed the story, and thanks for sharing. It's a concept worth exploring....
