Yeah, but my pro-Yuri bias filters my perception on that one. Though,
I do wonder at the predominance of pettanko-female-Kyon.

We just have different expectations of the Haruhi characters -- you
thought Murphid's first take on Haruhi was not worthy of complaining
about in the Coin, while I ranted at length (because I am a jerk). In
the novels, Haruhi is written right at the very edge of my ability to
still like as a character (though, Sigh _still_ bugs me; anime made me
temporarily BSOD on Haruhi-writing when that arc aired -- didn't
recover until reading madly up through novel eight), so when authors
make her even slightly less likable than canon, I tend to dismiss the
story in general (because, as mentioned before, I am a _jerk_).
Probably, I have too much empathy for Kyon.
And the problem with Later was just that I felt the greater meaning of
what I was going for utterly failed to come through. A lot of words
with an unintelligible message.... Didn't help that the first
feedback I got was to say that the tenses I corrected from feedback on
the last draft was a bad change, since that was an extensive overhaul.
Anyway, that's all moot. You can comment on anything you like; if I
can't handle it, I shouldn't be posting it. :)
Which is why I post way more to ff.net -- mostly stupid crap that's
not worthy of asking for feedback on.

Yep. I felt the same for Later. :\

I write fanfiction. Too much of it. You can read it here, thanks to a
kind grant from the Larry F foundation:
