You mean to say the story in general doesn't feel like a good idea?

I don't think there's any great reason to it.  Why does she look at this
coin and question it instead of accepting that it's a glitch?  Because
there'd be no story without it, and things would go on as they are.  I
no fan of "it just is" explanations either, but I'd thought it
acceptable to use as an inciting event.  Why did Haruhi never realize
her powers before?  A level of innate skepticism that belies her outward
drive to seek the unknown?  It's one idea, anyway, and it's not
something I'm entirely ignorant of.  If you're saying there should've
been some event that would make her choose to become aware of her powers
(however one would make that work), then I think I understand the point.

To be honest, though, with both remarks I'm afraid I'm just not sure
what you mean.
