Ouch. Well, I deserved that. I shouldn't have held a grudge against you for
so many years for that rude email you sent, since you're just some guy on
the internet. Though, you've not actually demonstrated you're any less of a
jerk, as you never apologized for your rude comments to your readers--you
merely said that you now see their point and will adjust things accordingly,
which is not the same thing at all. But it does show a certain amount of
growth and maturity.
I do think you're making the right choice here (in one respect), since if
the characters in their own world are speaking Japanese all the time, it
only makes sense to either write every line of dialogue in Japanese or write
them all in English translation, as they're not speaking some hodgepodge
(though I have heard quite a few people in real life speak Spanish & English
or Tagalog & English in this fashion). But on the other hand, if your only
goal is to write for your own amusement per the character voices in your
head, which do speak in a hodgepodge of Japanese and English, continuing the
hodgepodge is perfectly fine as it fills your goal. But then I realize
that's what you're doing, with your two concurrent versions, so you're right
that everybody wins.
As for being a reader or a writer, both of us wear both hats at different
times. Being a writer only and not a reader would cause a writer to tend
toward stagnation.
