Well, there's the aforementioned potential misunderstanding; its
waveform has collapsed.  Even so, I think I can fall back on Haruhi
just not watching the news that day, especially since you said it felt
contrived for Haruhi to be unaware while also seeing the report.  I
could probably actually work a few story-related explanations for
using the 'Student K' moniker instead of his real name, but it's still
going to be a contrivance to have the police continue to use it once
it's released.

Hmm, handwave or rewrite...?  Oh well, it's clumsy, in retrospect, but
I'll hope things can slide; it's a minor enough point.  Pity, I
usually research my cultural notes better, but was going off a vague
memory here instead of double-checking.  Well, let that be a lesson to
me!

Thanks for pointing out where I hadn't gotten the details right; even
if I don't know that I can achieve the level of accuracy I was going
for (if only because of the convention of avoiding Kyon's mysterious
real name), at least I actually know.  You know, for the next murder
mystery fic.... >.>
