As Serenity pointed out, it takes someone special to be the Black
Senshi.
They must be pragmatic, focused, and above all else, willing to
sacrifice.
Whatever the cost of the sacrifice may be.

I honestly don't know if Artemis would or wouldn't have if it came
down to it.

Yeah, I'll clarify, but yes, Taras is under Mikales' control and has
been pretty much since he opened Mikales' capsule.
In one version of the scene, Artemis informed Taras that he's pretty
sure Taras was sent to Earth as a probe/sacrificial lamb.
Remember, this was the Senshi's third mission and Beryl really wants
to know who or what Artemis has
that is taking out her agents. So Taras, who has no real use to either
Beryl or Mikales, and especially not to Mikales,
was sent. He would either be victorious and destroy Artemis and his
weapon, or die, but they would still hopefully
get a look at Artemis' weapon and Taras would be out of the way.
I will also tell you this. Mikales really, and I mean REALLY wants to
get his hands on the Blue Senshi and find out
the limits of her rage's power. And he will.
It will be his last mistake.

Probably not. Makoto is one of the quiet ones and no one ever notices
the quiet ones,
really. Martial Arts, at least in part, in my opinion, is based on
observation and perception.
Without her anger driving her, Makoto is pretty perceptive. She
doesn't miss much.
