Well, there is Mediaminer.org which I by far prefer the layout format of in comparison to fanfiction.net, but to my limited experience some of the Moderators can be almost ridiculously demanding for smarmy suck-up to not get hostile. Still, if you're just browsing it's worth a look around.

The only 'problem' with the latter being that Lathis is almost ridiculously good at exactly the things I'd like to have managed much better myself, and makes it look easy, which sort of gives the 'why even bother?' impression. ^_-

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2314624/1/The_Road_to_Cydonia isn't too shabby either, and http://www.fanfiction.net/u/57925/WFROSE has produced a few gems amongst his extremely varied and occasionally almost ridiculously twisted (which probably isn't your kind of thing) output. Strictly stick to the harmless sounding ones, and you should find something. I hope that might have been of some help at least.
