Belated thanks for the praise. It's very much welcome, considering I wasn't expecting any sort of response to this for a variety of reasons. Just wish I hadn't misspelled the word 'sapphire' in the Subject header... Sorry it took a while for me to get back to you - it takes me some time to think out how I want to reply to comments. 

As mentioned before, Sasuke was a character developed for the anime version of Ranma 1/2. A lot of people don't care much for him - I distinctly remember Gary Kleppe having some particularly hard words concerning the character - but others,  like me, find him a useful character when using the Kunos in a story. Loyal henchmen are almost always useful - just ask Agatha Heterodyne or Gilgamesh Wulfenbach. :) I wasn't aware he was so poorly paid by his masters, however. I have only seen the anime up to the end of second season, though I do recall him not being well treated.

Excellent, Excellent story!  It's been a while since I've read such a simple, 
legant tale of Ranma and Akane.  I won't comment in detail, but I will say that 
hile you may ha
ve pushed the character's characterizations, in general, 
lightly off Canon, you did so in a believable and sustainable way in order to 
ell a truly worthy tale.  I will mention, however, that Sasuke is not 
anonically well paid.  He subsists on bread and water... although I suppose 
hat may be mostly the anime version of him.  All in all, however, a very good 
tory indeed.
