I think that you're giving the sockpuppet too much credit. I.e. perceiving himself/herself as a writer, rather than a severely exaggerated persona to either raise a reaction, make a point, or both at once, and somehow catching us all the time.
Incidentally I'd love to have received even half of all the input he/she has received for my writing attempts, so it seems to be working out fine. People love to bash the figment to shake off the cobwebs, and the puppeteer/puppeteers has/have a laugh.
Then again, I may push the usual context for this type of Internet situation unto a more unusual case?
