[FFML] [News][Potter] Rowling Speaks on Dumbledore

I've been seeing comments as to what this means for the characters within
the story as well the fan fiction community. Frankly I'm of the "biiiig
whoop" community. Ok now people are going to go back through seven books
and scrutinize every thing Dumbledore's done. The Christian and concerned
parent coalitions will start demanding that the books once again be pulled
from the school libraries because they are now advocating a life style that
is not "wholesome and right". Whatever the heck that means.

What I'd like to see is an in depth study into Rowling's behavior over the
many years that this series was being written and see how her various "shock
quotes" tie into her own life. If she's looking for attention, then let the
attention fall where it should. Square on her shoulders. If she's looking
to piss people off for one petty reason or another, she could find less
problematic ways to do it. I think she's just going to eventually shoot
herself in the foot with all of this.

Let people who enjoy the books as a good bed time story for their kids or
for their own enjoyment enjoy the books without having to worry about the
stigma of society coming down on them for reading "unwholesome" materials.

But then again that's just my take on the topic.

I've actually found this news to be a good indicator of the level of
homophobia in an individual. If all of a sudden they think this entirely
changes how they look at Dumbledore and they're suddenly uncomfortable with
him as a character, that person is fairly homophobic.

If they say, "Cool!", they tend the other way.

HP has never inspired me sufficiently to read or write fanfic about it, but
I acknowledge that this opens up a whole new fertile area of fanfiction.
And that's always good.
