Because that's all any attempt at resurrecting the infamous "Bet" rates.
Besides, resurrecting the Bet like *this* is definitely not the proper way
to do it. The original bet was a huge collection of story starters by Gregg
Sharp, with the goal (IIRC) of determining which ones were interesting
enough that he should continue them. That the common premise used in all of
them was as good an excuse as any to when starting a Ranma AU or
megacrossover, and that Gregg gave blanket permission to use the characters
he'd developed for the framing story, was just icing on the cake.
The Bet wasn't a challenge. Remember that, and don't try to make it into
one.
You know, untill you had posted that I hadn't known that the Bet was
something done for story starters that were voted on.
So what?
Gregg Sharp gave permission to use the Bet characters outside his own
works, correct? So what's wrong with taking them and starting up a
challenge to writers so that it sparks their creativity?
The original Bet may not have been a challenge, but this one is
indeed. One that I hope gets some serious consideration from authors
that are still writing.
The FFML has become stagnant, only a few stories getting posted each
week. What's wrong with a challenge to try to bring something to
life?
Tannim Murphy is attempting the same thing with his SI Idea/Challenge.
But to be honest, whether or not anyone takes serious effort on the
FFML to try this challenge out, there are those who are indeed.
Myself included.
Rockman_Zero said that he wanted a new Pantheon, feel free to do your
own new pantheon for the fic. I personally made the
challenge/openning riff in an effort to pay homage to the original
Bet.
I'm really sorry that people don't want to take this seriously. And
I'm sorry we'll miss out on whatever writing you could have done.
