I *do* know both series. I *still* didn't see a point or a punchline.

Skuld looks a bit like Hotaru and like her tends to invent strange items
that are both cute and improbable, but her personality matches to Mikan.

I frankly do not see the resemblance between Skuld and Hotaru aside from
both having dark hair.

But yeah, you might be right. I guess that's why I have most of the series
sitting on my hard drive, fansubbed.
