You know really they may be young adults but they are adults.

Mickey?  Has he started to take excursions on the Tardis?  Last I knew 
he was willing to go to his knees and beg The Doctor to refuse to take 
him along.

I find this method of getting The Doctor together with Hermione to be a 
bit hamfisted.  The Doctor tends to show up when there's actual trouble 
going on. The Tardis actually seems to be attracted to it.  But Hermione 
seems to have been "killed" in nothing more than a random attack with 
nothing deeper going on.  If this was a Doctor Who episode then 
Hermione's killer would be maybe a timeshifted Jack the Ripper or some 
kind of alien and the Tardis would have shown up right in the alley.
