But save yourself some trouble and just stick to AD&D 1st or 2nd Ed.
Apart
from mixing up different RPG systems...
Oh, no. That would gut the story of some of the best stuff --
Harry's ability to pick and choose the best effects from dozens of
magical "traditions". Plus it would require DragonBard to
completely rewrite the existing five chapters. No, if anything
throw in "Shadowrun" and other even more wildly varying sources;
GURPS has several alternate magical systems including rune magic
and fully-improvised spellcasting.
Oh, I plan on using Shadowrun and GURPS. FUDGE as well.
If you want, Bob, e-mail me and I'll give you a list of what I plan to use
eventually as sources.
The reason it looks like I've focused on D&D is simply that it's what I'm
more familiar with. I honestly need to look into the other systems more
though, so I'll try and integrate them. more in later chapters.
and Harry might even want to
look into the theurgic aspects of real-world Wicca (similar to
necromancy but you talk to much nicer entities). (In fact, the
complete lack of theurgic/spirit magic in the HP world is an
issue I plan to address when I get to Drunkard's Walk XII, but
since that's a long ways off, let me just note that *something*
funnels prophecies through Trelawney -- why hasn't anyone tried
to talk to it?)
Huh, interesting.
I honestly can't wait for that chapter of Drunkard's Walk.
One of the systems I'm looking at using is Ars Magica, which is based on
hermetic magic systems, which is definitely theurgic in nature.
Really need to familiarize myself with these others more.
