Shooting a tree unto death is not illegal (though silly.) Shooting a
person gets you sent to prison for "life" or worse.

I've always felt that Rowling lacked a bit on the balance and scale. 
Personally if I was going to have a dozen or so spells that rated 
"unforgivable" they'd be up there as "crimes against humanity," rather 
than simple murder.  Particularly with the punishment handed out for 
breaking the law.  Hell, sending someone to a soul-sucking prison, 
particularly on false charges should rate as "unforgivable."

I'd expect they guy who developed the werewolf curse should rank up 
there and casting the actual spell should be "unforgivable."  A spell 
that turns people into rampaging killing machines that infects those it 
doesn't kill...come on, it's MUCH worse.

Or what about that Lockhart guy who stole people's memories and 
achievements.  Shouldn't that rate?  Or if you made it a bit worse, 
turned people into gibbering idiots and sucked ALL the knowledge and 
experience.  Wouldn't a serial "knowledge vampire" be worse than a murder?

Or some of those "unto the seventh generation" curses...I'm not talking 
about something like the Hibiki curse but something creative like 
Vampirism that shows up at puberty.
