She's a true American legend! From America!
Hah! Okay, so it's not just me. :p
But that doesn't change the little voice in the back of my head going
"don't hurt Kasumi! T_T"
People don't get hurt in Ranma canon and Love Hina canon because
they're comedies. Heck, there aren't ANY consequences for Naru
pummelling Keitaro in canon, but there are economic ones in this fic.
It seems to me that Brian's writing a more of a bildungsroman, not a
comedy, and your expectations should reflect that. Yeah, we don't
like seeing Kasumi hurt, but I prefer that Brian not pull his
punches. (And if you think it's realistic to go through all the
misadventures of Ranma canon without a casualty or two, I worry for
your fanfiction.)
I learned a new word today.
But, yeah, it's not really following the original flavor of any of the
three sources of inspiration, and I aknowledge that. Then again, the
characters are all older (though, only a tiny bit for Kintaro), and
this is meant to really show the growth of the main characters more
than tell jokes. I'm not terribly apt for humor so when it's there,
and I can do it, it's great, but that's always a secondary concern to
the characters themselves.
Regardless, different fics can have different tones, and not everyone
will always see eye-to-eye. But thank you for taking the time to
comment, Jon, and thanks again for my new word of the day.
"Bildungsroman".
Heh.
I am a leaf on the wind.
