Idea ruthlessly stolen from Nick Leifker and Cute Neko Hibiki. Attempting to
prove you can make a sows ear out of a silk purse . . . that's not right, or
I hope it isn't.
Angus beat me to the punch, but I hope this amuses.

I own none of the characters or series involved.

Mirichu walked into the room and felt a stab of worry. ~I forgot!
The anniversery!~ she realized as she watched Haruka paging through the old
photo album, ~Please don't do this to yourself again!~
Mirichu set down the tea she'd been carrying for both of them, and
she deliberately moved the album out of her paramour's lap and sat down
there instead. She stared into her companion's, her lover's, her one true
friend's eyes, wishing she could drive away the pain she saw there.
"Hotaru's asleep upstairs, _Pluto_ is off doing whatever she does,"
she said, running a finger along Haruka's strong jaw smiling as she did it,
"And _I_ want to send you to sleep with a smile."
Haruka frowned fiercely, showing her canines, but Mirichu thought it
was indescribably cute. "Do you have any . . . regrets?" Haruka's normally
confident tone was lost in nostalgia.
~Yes, my love,~ she thought, ~But not with you!~ "What?" Mirichu
teased, slipping her arms around her fellow Outer's waist, "Lose my best
friend, go back to that insanity? We have something to do that actually
matters. I was finally able to indulge my art and music. You found a sport
where all you have to do is stay on the road, going the same direction as
everybody else, and you win," she ignored Haruka's venomous look and
continued, "We have a beautiful little girl who needs her parents, us. We
have someone who loves us with all her heart and soul . . . at least _you_
do," she said with a pout.
"You do too!" Haruka replied defensively, then softened her tone, "I
just have to think that . . . things could have been so different." Haruka
stared into Mirichu's eyes. "Would they have been better? You've seen how
the Inners look at us."
"They're jealous," Mirichu explained as she snuggled against her
lover, "They know _we_ have a warm body and a warm soul beside us when we
get home. And they _don't_." Mirichu pressed herself tightly against
Haruka and shuddered, exciting her partner. "The idea of a guy sticking
his - up there!" She shuddered again.
"I agree, and you're awful. I want to be depressed, and you won't
let me."
"What's to be depressed about?" Mirichu looked down and smiled.
"Things haven't been _so_ bad have they? I always knew you were my friend,
now you understand I'm yours."
The snort from the corner drew their attention to the ankle-high
moose with the moon mark on it's forehead.
"Keep your opinions to yourself ya old perv!" Mirichu threw the
photo album at the creature who took it right between the eyes, "Man among
men! Who needs it?!"
Haruka pulled Mirichu back from pursuing and pulverizing their
`advisor`, _again_. "I just wonder how things would have been different if
I hadn't caught up with you. And if we hadn't fallen in the pool together,"
Haruka said quietly, stroking Mirichu's arms, regaining her lover's
attention, "And skipped your ole' man across those two pools. Don't you
ever wonder about it, Ranma?"
        "Never, Ryoga."
