 I think definitions of what gives anime and manga a particular flavour is
difficult.
 thus "opening" the list becomes difficult as well.
 Is a retelling Ranma in the golden days of Old California anime?

 I would be opposed to "Totaly Spies" for example (French and Canadian
with pseudo-Japanese stylings) 

Any broadening of the list would necessarily create the potential for 
bringing in certain series that you don't like.  For that matter I'm 
sure that there are some Japanese series you don't like.  I kind of 
doubt anyone can make a Hamtaro fic palatable to me.  We can't pick and 
choose on that basis.

And...for the record, Canada has absolutely nothing to do with the 
production of Totally Spies.  We bear a heavy enough karmic burden for 
Martin Mystery.  Don't saddle us with the French/American productions.
