which, is there no local military?

There's probably a barracks nearby.  Later in the
series the city gets locked down, indicating a large
number of local forces.  But seriously, when you live
in a city with a large academy filled to the brim with
magic-users, would YOU want to get your forces mixed
up with their problems?

Besides, with the demons inside the guild and not
looking like they're going anywhere, the local forces
would probably  stay outside and be more concerned
that the stray demon would wander out and attack some
helpless citizen.  Very doubtful they'd assault the
Guild directly without some serious backup.

I can't wait to read more, and eagerly await whatever
hijinks Louie gets into.  There aren't enough Rune
Soldier fics out there.  ^_^
