It honestly makes me wonder if what we're seeing isn't fanfiction

series, but rather fanfiction for some RPing environment. Probably an
IRC chatroom. If these fanfics aren't, in fact, about characters in
some
loose continuity RP where Ranma characters, Buffy characters, and the
occasional Sailor Moon character shows up to boff each other and have
random adventures, mostly revolving around boffing each other.

I always figured it was just throwing out random combinations of
characters on the theory that sooner or later, it'll hit on one that
will make the rest of us oooh and ahhh, and heap praise for their
l33t writing skillz.

A lot more monkeys and typewriters will be needed for that to happen...

Now to actually comment on the... fic. Or something.

Frankly, CKK (or whatever you call yourself these days), it wouldn't be
_that_ bad if you at least tried to write _one_ story instead of
hundreds of unfinished prologues and/or spamfics. As it is, none of
what you posted in recent years has been useful to anyone, because none
of it had enough 'meat' to even begin to look like a story. Not even
the spamfic oneshots. None, nil, nada, zilch, que dalle.

Okay, maybe once or twice. But my point stands.

So here's my advice, given in good faith:

Print your prologues, all of them; put them in front of you, and try to
merge them into one plot. Discard any as needed. Use pen and paper.
Ask an adult if needed (joke, joke).

Once you have an overall plot, outline the first five chapters. No, not
just the first, and GODS NOT JUST THE PROLOGUE!

Ahem. When you have the first five chapters outlined, _write them_, and
outline the next five. Work on the first five _at least_ until you've
outlined the next five.

When the next five are outlined, you may begin to think about posting
the first three chapters on the FFML. Usually you'd only need to post
the very first, but let's be realistic here: you have a reputation. One
won't be enough to interest people. And that's what this is all about,
isn't it? ...Anyways.

Do not post any chapter unless the next two are ready to be posted as
well. Well, unless the story ends, obviously.

Last thing: make sure that your chapters break the 2K limit. 8K would
be good enough, and yes, I'm talking bytes here. More is usually better
(at least for my nerves). Remember, we want that story divided into
_chapters_, not pages.

I suppose you could also post true oneshots. Hint: oneshots typically
do _not_ have "To be continued" at the end.

I don't expect much, if only to not be disappointed (thats not
personnal, just a way of life). But at least I tried. Please, do try
as well. My time isn't so valuable for me to care about wasting it, but
there's always limits.

I would guess, from other posts on this thread, that others on this list
feel the same.
