At this point, I don't think Harry Potter will become an epidemic... but
that is my opinion only.
*Nothing* is going to be an epidemic in the state the list is in at this
point. I can't see the current membership going completely wild with C&C,
regardless of what fandoms the list is opened to. I could have told you
that without you poll. In fact... I did.
Maybe, over time, Harry Potter story traffic will reach the doomsday
status that Krista was predicting.
I never predicted any doomsday status from an influx of HP fanfiction. You
confused and combined my three separate points. Here. Let me clarify for
you.
Point Number 1: The list as it stands isn't going to get to the point where
there's massive amounts of C&C flying around again, regardless of what other
fandoms you introduce, so what's the point in opening it to non-anime
fandoms, when the current fics being posted aren't getting C&C? THERE's my
doomsday prediction for you. Death by inactivity, not HP.
Point Number 2: If we go out actively seeking new blood and recruit and
advertise that the list is now open to HP fics, *then,* and only if it
*works,* do I see the list getting deluged with HP fics. And then yes,
there will be plenty of stuff to C&C. I'm not being snarky stating this -- I
never was. But the question still remains -- will anyone *bother* to C&C?
Yes, we've got this wonderful spate of activity going right now, but as Mike
Loader pointed out, it's probably not going to last long.
Point Number 3: There's already a quarter of a million HP fics on
fanfiction.net alone, and the majority of them are crap. With a quarter of
a million HP fics to wade through, the odds of finding decent reading
material in the current HP fanfic pool are slim at best. (This,
incidentally, is a completely separate point from Points 1 and 2.)
Clear about what I was saying now?
