I agree, we need to open this up to other fandoms, breath new
life into the
place, but whenever I read that phrase, I get visions of
hacking through
Alley McBeal and Magnum PI fanfics.
My suggestion, try opening the place up slowly.
Start with US Comic/Cartoon, SF/Fantasy, and RPG fics. After
all, most of
us, past and present, are members of at least one, if not all
of these
fandoms as well as that of anime.
Only then, if that hasn't gotten things to move along, do we
consider adding
fandoms.
Hear, hear. I agree with the idea of opening up slowly, too. As said by
others, throwing open the gates entirely would probably dump a ton of HP
slash or worse on our laps.
Definitely allow Comic and Cartoon fics, RPG ficion (including game
narratives?) and SF/fantasy. We'll have to be more careful with he last,
given some Fantasy authors' outlook on fanfiction (having read about
Drunken Walk I), but anything that gets new blood in will help.
As for easier sign-ups, can one of the more HTML-savvy posters code up a
page with a sign-up mechanism? Like, a quick 'enter your e-mail here'
thing that automatically eposts to the list server?
