No, I sadly suspect you're spot on in this regard.  I do think that (with
the exception of crossovers), stories in series other than the Big 5 get
sent packing rather quickly.
 

The strange thing is, I see many non (Ranma, Tenchi, Slayers, Sailor 
Moon, Eva) fics being posted here. Just no C&C for them.
There are obviously authors interested in other anime/manga series.

The challenge here is to engage the lurkers to come forward and 
participate.
