[[I don't know... I find that negative reviews are only as bad as one thinks.
In my mind, negative reviews are better because it's easy to say something
that's good, but it's a real pain in the ass to find someone that'll chew your
ass out over minute details. That shows a level of caring about the work.
Unless it's some lunkhead that says "OMG U Suxxor!" negative reveiws are more
constructive, no matter how old the work is.]]

It's not that I don't appreciate constructive criticism - god knows, I'm one of the worst critics around (at least where art and comics are concerned) and people won't hesitate to tell me so. The manner in which the criticism is presented is a great deal more important to me. Case in point: I posted the prologue of a fanfiction I wrote in 2001 and had previously archived on my webpage (at the time I actually ran a Ranma 1/2 fanfiction archive). The one compliment I got was very short, perhaps even a one liner. The other was very sarcastic, along the same vein as an MST3K.

The thing is, I can easily see the flaws they pointed out - as well as a few more they didn't catch. I've been told I'm a perfectionist and my own worst critic, and it's true. What they didn't tell me in all of their sarcasm was what I needed most to hear: how I could go about making it -better-. Criticism is all well and good, but if you don't have any helpful suggestions and just want to pick something apart to show off your own intellect (hey guys, look at the new hole I tore that newbie!) then kindly be considerate and refrain.
