But, here's the part where I'm genuinely confused. I thought that's what the 
people of this list abhorred about Fanfiction.net.  That that's the only 
"reviews" people get there. And here, you were supposed to be able to get 
C&C, which is why it's 'better' to post to this list than FFN.

While I agree FFN leaves much to be desired in terms of quality of fanfic 
and quality of the people behind the curtain... It sounds like a bit of a 
conundrum.

On the one hand, the list goers don't want the dreaded masses who churn out 
utter nonsense in the name of fanfiction. But, you're willing to promote it 
to those same people in the hopes of getting new blood.

And then, by that same token, we're asking people to speak up, even if they 
don't have C&C to contribute, just to say "nice job" in order to keep 
authors posting here and increase traffic, but that's the same thing one can 
get on FFN.


Like Krista said before me, there are only certain types of animes that seem 
to be 'welcome' here. Since I write primarily Gundam fanfiction, I haven't 
felt like I had anything to contribute.  So, take my comments with a grain 
of salt as a lurker (I'm sure you guys will anyway).

Ultimately, I guess my point is... New people aren't always going to be 
great writers off the bat.  So, whereas really great fanfiction is 
enjoyable, there has to be some amount of tolerance for those that just 
started out in order for them to ever get to the point where they will be 
really great.  I see the problem as the list kinda wants to have their cake 
and eat it too. They want new blood who are great writers and who will have 
experienced C&C to offer - and who will feel comfortable enough right off 
the bat to just join away and start posting.  I've been writing for more 
than 5 years, and I don't have that sort of confidence.

I wish I had an answer or a solution. I don't feel it's very constructive of 
me to not offer one... I guess I see things as though the list in general 
seems to need to pick whether they want to have more traffic, and stomach 
whatever people are willing to post - at least at first, and then every time 
someone new joins.  To make an effort to welcome people - if that's the mods 
or a designated bunch of people deemed a welcoming committee, or whatever. 
Or, you can continue to be the critical eye for fanfiction, only welcoming 
those who have the guts to stand on stage and audition - and the hope Mr. 
Cowl likes the genre of music you choose to sing.

But then again, I'm just a lurker. So, luckily, I won't take it personally 
if my opinion doesn't count.
