comment about, besides the fact you enjoyed it.

Amen.  That matches my own experience.

Additionally, when I do C&C, what I have to say often tends to be purely
technical -- grammar, spelling, punctuation.  That makes very boring
reading for anyone but the author, I think, so I tend to send it
privately.

On the other hand, as a sometime author, I can say that the "nice work"
emails are nice to get too.  So perhaps I'm being inconsistent.
