I've actually gotten _some_ C and C on several of my fics, even my newest
attempt to actually DO something.  While _I_ would like to see new fics in a
non "big five" (I don't like slayers or Tenchi fics that much, to be honest)
myself, it's one way to see if it's WORTH making the effort to see if the
series is worth getting.  I prefer to read, not watch, so if I see good fics
in that series, I tend to think the series is worth my time in writing.
I do agree the list needs to evolve and I'll wait and see how it changes.
