Subject: [FFML] Re: [Meitantei Conan][Bleach] The Other Side Of Death
(Prologue)
Yahyah, I know. I do this way too often. Shaddap. x.x
This is the result of a crack-addled mental image which I had at like 3am
while marathonning Bleach, which just WOULD NOT GO AWAY...
If you watched all of it in one go, then you have more mental fortitude than
I. And possibly more caffeine than blood in your veins... Then again, I
watched all of Crest/Banner of the Stars in one sitting a while ago.
But really, isn't that how MOST of these things get their start? ^_^;;
Yes, yes it certainly is. ^_^
Yes, and a good thing, too - Lurker-san, even if your stories never get past
a couple of chapter (which is just too bad), what there is of them is
usually worth reading several times.
PROLOGUE
Shinigami.
Higher-order spirit beings, generally invisible to humans, who exist to
facilitate the transition of human souls from the living world to the
world
of spirits--the world which is referred to by the Shinigami as 'Soul
Society'
People are just dying to go there.
Snerk.
--and to disperse sin and impurity which cause human spirits to
transform into soulless, evil monsters which prey on innocent
souls--creatures known as Hollows.
While the more perverted of the souls are transformed into horny, often
tentacled demons who prey on innocent schoolgirls.
Funnily enough, the only tentacled Hollow we've seen so far is the Grand
Fisher - I wonder why?
Strict laws govern the behaviour of the Shinigami, who are considered by
many to be the highest authority of the spirit domain, and others to be
its
most notorious scum. Punishment for violation of the laws of the
Shinigami
is severe. Interfering in the affairs of the Shinigami usually leads to
death.
One of the more important tenets of Shinigami law is the noninvolvement
of
living humans in the affairs of Soul Society. Violations are severely
frowned upon and carry heavy penalties. The most severe penalties are
levied
for the offense of imbuing a mortal with the powers of the Shinigami--an
act
that completely contradicts the delicate balance of the mortal and spirit
planes.
*SPOILER* - it wasn't sharing her powers that got Rukia in trouble, it was
failing to return to Soul Society when summoned, IIRC. And *everyone*
involved except the conspirators and Old Man Yama thought the punishment way
out of proportion to the "crime".
And yet when death is the other option, what are you gonna pick? : p
The most infamous case in recent history of a human becoming a Shinigami
involves one Kurosaki Ichigo, possessed of immense spiritual power and
awakened to his potential as a Shinigami by Kuchiki Rukia, who was
subsequently sentenced to the most severe penalty administered by Soul
Society law.
This is not their story.
*Facefault*
Concur.
SNIP!
The boy smiled gently. His smile would have made Michie feel better, if
only
he didn't still have his sword out. "Are you alright?" he asked gently.
"U-un," the girl nodded, swallowing.
"Saa," the boy replied, pushing his glasses up his nose. "I bet you're
tired...bet you want to sleep now, right?"
I'm not sure if I'm missing a reference or something, but why does he keep
saying 'Saa'?
Most CLAMP protagonists have a trademark "non-word" that turns up in their
speech every time there's an opportunity. The easiest to remember would be
Kinomoto Sakura's "Hoeee!" (Chii doesn't count, she only *had* that one
word...) I assume "saa" is Edogawa Conan's.
The little girl looked confused, but nodded, and did as asked. A moment
later, she felt a soft pressure on her forehead--but when she tried to
open
her eyes, all she saw was light...
Wow...did NOT see that coming. O_o
I did, from a mile away - pretty much figured out she died in the same scene
where she found her mother and the monster. With a Shinigami on site, an
immediate Konso follows naturally.
What I don't get is how the mother recognized him as a Shinigami, unless
they earlier and he had time to introduce himself.
After the soul of the deceased woman faded into nothingness, Conan
slumped
against a ruined wall, removing his glasses and wiping tiredly at his
eyes.
"I really *hate* this fucking job sometimes..."
So would I. This was a hell of a scene, Lurker - kudos for pulling it off.
Hope they have a hell of a dental plan for it.
Well, the life insurance definitely covers burial costs, at least.
But he knew there was no turning back now. Not after...what happened
*that*
day...
BAH! Damn evil cliffhangers!!
I wonder how many chapters would fall out of Lurker's vest if we hung him
over a cliff and shook him, some...? :-)
(To be continued...)
See that you do, this time! :-)
