First off, if a reply is written by a person in one list, that
person might have objections to a response that appears in groups other than
the one to which he or she is subscribed. I know of several examples of
people who hate specific forums, and object to having their work or comments
posted in them.

Well, okay, while I suppose that they could simply take said forums out
of their reply if they felt that vehemently about it... if it even was a
forum that did not require already being a member to allow posting to
it. But... whatever, I guess.

Cross-posting can also cause technical problems, which is why
there's a ban on the practice in the FFML FAQ regarding cross-posting to
RAAC, quoted below. Whether or not this might happen with other services is
something best not explored in the first place.

Alllrighty. The FAQ specifically forbids cross-posting to one particular
group, but, I... suppose... you could sort of, kind of make that
reasoning there for not crossposting to other services. Sort of.
Of course, I rarely use the "Reply All" function, as it seems a spammy
sort of way to do it, and just add in any addresses as they're needed
(such as the FFML address), but... 'kay.

As a general rule of thumb, it's a good idea to keep posts to
different forums or mailing lists separate, even if they say exactly the
same thing. Then you can hit the "reply to all" button without worrying
about offending anyone or causing a glitch in the system that might get
admins mad at you.

Yeah, that offending people thing... ... yeah. Um, I'm with you. Seriously.

As for answering C&C... I'll mention this publicly as it's a good
thing to remind people of occasionally. It's a -very- good idea to answer
all of it, even if the person just said "I like it". A quick "thank you"

Actually, in that case, I was talking about sending the C&C to every
list the fic was sent to... "answering" it to all of the lists. Not
phrased the clearest way, but I'd just woken up a few minutes before and
was yawning my way through my morning mailcrawl. I suppose I don't quite
see the necessity of sending one's comments on a fic to every single
list the fic was posted to... as long as it gets to the author, and
perhaps the list that you're on that received the fic, isn't that the
important thing?
But I will try to keep all your points in mind, and remember them the
next time you C&C one of my fics. n.n
