Ranma was a bit startled that he hadn't noticed that before, and
paused a moment before greeting the eldest Tendo daughter, who was
standing before the sink, gazing out the window at yard which
separated the main house from the dojo proper.

What do you think, is this just a little too long a sentence?

Easy enough to fix. I just jotted this all down without bothering to
re-read and edit much.

"Oh, my god," he gasped as he desperately tried to quell
the guffaws
that were threatening to do him in. "A hardbound edition of the
'Harlequin Romance Anthology, Volume Twenty'? Who'd have
ever thought
that the doc was addicted to trashy romance novels?!"

Ranma obviously jumps to conclusions here. You would not
believe what kind of stuff I have in my library. If someone
borrows it, it's her (or his) idea, not mine. Maybe Tofu had
all of it inherited. Plus, we do not know what _else_ Kasumi borrows.

In that, you're reading too much into it.

These two spamfics are just a simple reaction to the fanon
stereotype, "Kasumi must be a genius because she borrows books from Doctor
Tofu." It's a fallacy that I fell into myself a long time ago, but it lives
on and I'm seeing it in dozens and dozens of fan fic stories these days.
With that in mind, I felt inspired to present an alternative look at the
idea, and since Ranma 1/2 is first and foremost a comedy, I think I'm making
a valid point.

The stories are just two variations on one idea: What if the reasons
Kasumi borrowed the books had nothing to do with wanting to be a doctor or
nurse? Reason one: she doesn't want to actually read them at all. She just
can't afford a new table. Reason two: the good doctor has a little secret;
he's the best source of b-grade romance novels in the neighborhood because
he buys them by the boatload.

If they fail slightly in execution... What can I say? I wrote them
in something like fifteen minutes. ^_^

In the first segment, what is the Ranma and Akane's
conversation for? It does not seem to have _anything_ with
the book. Or am I missing something?

Just a slice out of the day, leading up to the actual event. When
you're walking home, how much of what you may talk about to a companion has
to do with what you do when you get there?

I like the writing style.

Good to know I did something right. ^_-
