"Daioh. They"

Unless there's an Azumanga Daioh They series I haven't heard about.
This would be, what, tracking the girls as they grow up and become the
mysterious They, The Powers That Be, which very quickly turns out to be
society at large and thus all of us, so it's ultimately just the same
tone as the original? ;)

"I'm saying that compared to us girls, guys don't have anything to
worry
about," Tomo explained.

"I don't know about that."

Tomo shook her head. "It's true. All they have to do is act macho and
they
get everything handed to them. It's disgusting!"

Ironically enough, Tomo could possibly draw that conclusion from things
Yomi said, despite Yomi's explicit disagreement.

"Yeah, a lot more. You wouldn't last twenty-four hours as a guy," the
first
speaker proclaimed.

Tomo shot to her feet. "You're on! I'll make you eat those words."

This is always a bad sign. In a good way. :)

Yomi finally interjected herself into the conversation. "What do you
mean?"

...maybe it's just me, but given the topic, Yomi "interjecting" herself
seems, well...

Yomi suddenly had a very bad feeling,

Only now? She's a bit slow, for Yomi. Within the range of
plausibility, though.

the kind that came when she
found
herself in an inescapable situation and counted herself lucky if she
came
out of it with all her body parts intact.

Subtract two, add one, equals uh-oh. ;)

Regaining some of her breath, Yomi spun around. "What do you think
you're
doing?!"

"Greeting you like a guy would. They're always slapping each other on
the
back when they meet one another."

Each other, perhaps, but slapping girls? Not that she'd think of it
yet...

"Oh." A puzzled expression replaced Osaka's awe. "So asking Tomo out
is a
bad idea, huh?"

Yomi just let her head sink to the desk.

Osaka: "Is that a yes or a no?"

Actually, I could kind of see Osaka spacing out and just telling Yomi
that she was thinking of asking Tomo out anyway, just so people would
see her with a good-looking guy even if he wasn't actually a guy. I
could almost see that, and the result, being one or two more scenes,
actually...

Toward the rear of the class, Kaorin and Chihiro stared intently at
Tomo.

Chihiro: Yay! I got mentioned again! At this rate, soon I'll be as
popular as Kaorin!

Kaorin: ...

Chihiro: Kaorin? Are you...crying?

Kaorin: I...I just want to remember you as you are now. Innocent,
pure...

Chihiro: *nervously steps back towards obscurity*

Kaorin shook her head sadly as she whispered to Chihiro, "I think
this is
proves beyond a shadow of a doubt Tomo is the most stupid person in
the
class, if not the whole school.

Missing end quote.

"I'm serious," Chihiro insisted. "She looks kind of bishonen."

With her bust?

Toward the front of the class, Sakaki turned a shade of crimson
reserved for
ripe tomatoes while Tomo simply preened.

And yet she wouldn't later confront Kaorin about calling her cute, at
least to thank her?

Before Yomi could say a word, a hand fell heavily on her shoulder and
Tomo's
voice bellowed, "Hey there, Buddy, you'd better be ready for the
fight of
your life when you go hitting on another man's woman."

Tomo had better get ready to fight for her life. XD

Tomo's arm wrapped itself affectionately around Yomi's shoulder.
"Yeah, this
is the main squaw in my harem, if you know what I mean."

Osaka: And I'm just a breedin' mare.

Yomi: This is a nightmare.

Osaka: Yeah. Night's when the br- *notices shadow towering over her*
What?

Sakaki: Not in front of Chiyo.

"But if I ever need a short person's perspective on something, you're
the
first person I'll come to."

"And I'm not that short!" Chiyo fumed.

Anybody else might have cause to say this, but did Osaka forget she's
only barely taller than Chiyo? (Which is not entirely beyond
plausibility, granted, but Chiyo might point that out.)

Nyamo's mind jumped to the same conclusion as she ran out of the
locker
room. She was back a minute later, dragging Tomo forcibly behind her.

"Girls are not allowed in the boys' locker room!" Nyamo shouted at
her as
she released the hold on Tomo's arm.

One can see some girls concluding this was the actual, and intended,
entire point of Tomo's goings-on.

"I don't mean how tall he is." Tomo held her hands wide apart. "I
mean this
is the size of his-"

"Tomo!" Nyamo barked. "We don't talk like that in this locker room.

Which would make it an unusually clean locker room, even for a girls'
locker room (second hand evidence, granted, but reliable sources),
though most teachers would prefer to keep that image.

And the
true worth of a man is measured by his heart, not how. big he is."

Extend period into ellipse: "how...big".

Nyamo blushed. "It's. It's not that it's. important. It's just. an
added
bonus if they happen to. you know.."

And again, in multiple places.

"Have a nickname like 'The Anaconda?" Tomo asked.

Missing single quote: "Have a nickname like 'The Anaconda'?"

"How about that. I couldn't even tell you were wearing a chest wrap."
Osaka
turned to her companions. "Could any of you tell?"

They shook their heads.

Again, Tomo's bust seems noticeable enough for most. I can see Osaka
missing it, but (for instance) Kagura would likely notice - although
she might decide to get in on the joke. Still, perhaps "Most of them
shook their heads." would be better.

Tomo's shoulders slumped in misery. "You're a cold, cold person,
Osaka."

Osaka: But you can warm me up, can't you?

Yomi: O_o;

Nyamo shouted. "On your mark! Get Set! Go!" And fired a starter
pistol.

"Set" should not be capitalized.

Kagura shook her head sadly. "One thing I will say you're good at;

: instead of ;

you
bullshit as much as any guy."

Quite true. ^_^

"Well, for your information, the misguided fool at the center of the
sordid
mess was."

Another period into ellipse.

Right behind her.

"---definitely not in any way shape or form Minamo Kurosawa and don't
let
anyone tell you otherwise," Yukari added. The feeling of her own
mortality
peering over her shoulder suddenly lessened, as though it were moving
away
down the hall and into Nyamo's homeroom.

Thus proving that Yukari can, indeed, sense danger to save her life.
Sometimes.

Yomi swore if Tomo was stupid enough to wear a guy's
uniform again she'd rip it off her and force her to wear a dress,
even if it
meant tying her down and forcing it on her.

And with no concept of the impact that tying Tomo down and ripping off
her uniform would have on the rumor mill.

"What? This?" Tomo fingered her outfit. "Actually, I did come dressed
as a
guy again, but someone else was cross-dressing too and, as much as I
hate to
admit it, she looked better than me. I know when I'm outclassed, so I
switched back to skirts, make-up, and tampons."

On campus. In the span between arriving and first class.

Then again, Tomo might just be able to pull it off, especially since
she probably goes relatively light on the makeup (with her skills,
heavy makeup would not make her look good)...

Chiyo stood in the doorway, her hair undone and falling to her
shoulders,
dressed in a boy's school uniform.

And wearing a jacket with "Tenjou Tenga Yuigadokuson" or "I am the
center of the universe" on the back?

"Ch.Chiyo-chan," Yomi said.

Period to ellipse.

So much for my Azumanga hiatus, though this was the only thing to
come to me
in a while. Can't say when inspiration might strike next. Ta-Ta.

Speaking of, I need to get Chiyobreak's revision posted...
