I remember when this fic was first written.  At the
time, Pokemon was relatively new, and there was a
"Pokemon - especially Pikachu - are the devil" meme
floating around.  The meme faded as Pokemon weathered
the hysteria, and these days both are practically gone
except as historical footnotes.

In short, the joke is dated.  It's like making a joke
about President Bush, and not being clear that one
means the former Bush, the one that served before
Clinton (a clarification not needed back then since,
at the time, there had only been one President Bush so
far).

It would be better, in the long term (which we're
technically in now), to reference characters whose
evil is not a passing fad - like, say, Gendo Ikari.
