Elsa! It's been a while since I've last seen one of your posts. ^_^
In celebration of my finally catching 'Sky Captain'.
Oooh! I need to see that one as well. Everyone's been telling me how great it
is, but I've been kind of busy....
Some people have seen this before, but it hasn't been released
here yet.
Haven't seen this one yet...
(Reads through it...)
Wow! There so many names being dropped I'm having touble telling the difference
between the historical figures and the anime characters. I was mostly skimming
along, reveling in the lovely bit of war narrative and detail when finally I
hit a paragraph that slammed my perception of it all back into focus:
"Clow Reed is dead." Her clipped, perfunctory tone could not hide
the sadness inherent in that statement. Master Clow Reed was one of the
few mages trained in the Eastern and Western traditions that had managed
to blend them in a seamless whole. He was also the linchpin to the
mystic defenses that made Japan safe from invasion.
Clow Reed, eh? Well, I just got done reading the Cardcaptor Sakura manga, and I
saw a fair amount of the anime. While what Sakura was doing was, comparatively
speaking, kid stuff, Clow Reed was as serious as magicians get. Can put a
city, country, or planet possibly into a deep sleep, can see the future, and
has an infuiriatingly enigmatic view of everything. Lock him and
fanfic-convention Sailor Pluto in the same room and I honestly wouldn't know
who to feel sorry for. (Though I still suspect Clow'd get the upper hand.)
And if Clow's involved, I'm sure he's got a plan to get everything all sorted
out, in total defiance of whatever plans the rest of the world is making. He's
kind of like that. I can see how he'd be a linchpin to a country's defense
forces. He could work magic on a planetary scale, IIRC. Dump him into an
arena with the collective DBZ cast and he'd have a fair shot at coming out the
winner.
"Master Reed left a sorcerer's test instead of a phylactery. His
power is active but unmanaged. His apprentices cannot access any of his
enchantments. Every mage, wizard, shrine maiden and even Gifted children
is being called to participate in the test. As soon as possible."
Wow. I'm not sure there's enough Clow cards to go around. At most, that test'd
be able to support perhaps half a dozen people. So, he's probably using a
different sort of test. Besides, the clow card test is more geared toward a
highly emotional story full of bizarre crushes and dressing up unwitting young
women in varyingly cute outfits. But who's counting?
In any case, I did get drawn into the narrative despite having no clue at all
who 99% of the characters involved were. Instead, focusing on the action, I
was able to get a vivid image of what was going on. I still don't know many
details of the attacking forces, but I suppose that's covered elsewhere anyway.
So, that was pretty nifty. Thanks for writing and sharing!
