As someone just noted, this is apparently a retcon by the creator.
Chris and I are using OAVs and early manga as our reference material,
and therein "mom" and "dad" are the only terms used.

The roughing up of Skuld scene seemed abrupt to me. On the second
reading Doug didn't come across as a complete jerk like he did the
first time I read it, but it still felt like it came out of nowhere. 

I just addressed this in a reply to someone else; summarizing it
doesn't do it justice, so please look for that message, okay?

Other than that, it was an enjoyable read. I'll be looking forward to
seeing more of this character.
