As someone just noted, this is apparently a retcon by the creator.
Chris and I are using OAVs and early manga as our reference
material,
and therein "mom" and "dad" are the only terms used.

Good point. That explains a couple other things as well.
 

The roughing up of Skuld scene seemed abrupt to me. On the second
reading Doug didn't come across as a complete jerk like he did

the

first time I read it, but it still felt like it came out of

nowhere. 

I just addressed this in a reply to someone else; summarizing it
doesn't do it justice, so please look for that message, okay?

Bert Miller was kind enough to explain the character to me.
 

Other than that, it was an enjoyable read. I'll be looking

forward to

seeing more of this character.
