I've been waiting for this since I saw the outline of your series. I can
say I'm not disappointed with it.
Thanks!
I'm curious, what point in time of the OMG series does this story take
place? I know Chris jumbled things up a bit in his series, but it'd be
nice to know which volume of OMG do you imagine this story taking place
in.
Chris and I have pretty much pinned this down as occurring right before
the events that would normally have developed into the Lord of Terror
arc.
It looks like the temple compound has been remodelled, there are more
buildings than have been shown in OMG manga or anime.
Not so much remodelled as extrapolated. Besides, with all the
vehicles that live in that compound, it seems reasonable that
at least one shed or garage should have been erected for them
alone, if an outbuilding that could be repurposed didn't
already exist.
Megumi referring to her parents as "mom" and "dad"... most english readers
wouldn't get it until '06 anyway, so I'll let it slide as well.
Well, others are addressing that elsewhere. I'll just say that
Chris and I are both working from early manga/OAV data, and in
both our exposures, the later retcon about addressing the parents
hadn't yet happened. In fact, these comments are the first I've
ever heard about it. In the material we both have, "mom" and "dad"
are the only terms used.
What does concern me is how you got the fight started. One moment Doug is
trying to get away from the goddesses, the next moment, a domestic
disputes arrives, giving him the best chance to escape and what does he
do? Grab one of those goddesses and rattle her around in a most
threatening manner. Why the change of heart?
One of the things about gods that Doug hates most is how, in his
opinion, they jerk around mortals and play sadistic little games
with them. As someone else has just noted, he doesn't (at this
point) realize that Skuld really *is* a 13-year-old, mentally and
emotionally. He sees a Lovecraftian monster in a 13-year-old-girl
suit, about to pull a scam that will hurt an innocent mortal, and
that sets him off. As far as deciding whether that's a good idea
or not, he's stressed, upset, frightened and still slightly
disoriented from his recent world jump. He's not in the best
shape for logical thought.
Oh, I don't think he should have been able to grab Skuld's hammer after
being hit in the foot either.
We had a bit of discussion about that on the prereaders' list.
The consensus finally boiled down to, if she's a thirteen year old,
then she's a thirteen year old, and a mature metahuman adult male
should be able to wrestle the hammer from her. To best of our
knowledge, Skuld's never been shown (in the range of source material
we're using as our reference base) to have more than normal human
strength for her size and age, nor has the hammer been shown to
have the kind of enchantment on it that would prevent others from
taking it from her (like, say, Mjollnir).
Other than that, story's fine. Look forward to the next chapter.
Thanks. We'll send up a flare when it gets close to completion.
