Indeed -- finding this out was a big surprise to me, as it's in
none of the source material *I* own.

The roughing up of Skuld scene seemed abrupt to me. On the second
reading Doug didn't come across as a complete jerk like he did the
first time I read it, but it still felt like it came out of nowhere. 

He has not, at that point, figured out that Skuld really *is* a little
girl, and that her emotional immaturity is not by choice. He thinks of
her as an adult goddess hiding in the shape of a kid to get away with
pushing people around, not as a kid goddess pushing people around
because she doesn't know better. I think.

Correct, except he doesn't see her as an "adult goddess", but as a
near-Lovecraftian Thing dressed up as a little girl.

Have I mentioned that Doug has issues with deities?  <grin>

I'll admit to the egregious sin of never having read Drunkard's Walk
I-IV, 

Well, mainly that's because out of those four, only Drunkard's Walk II
exists.  Drunkard's Walk I won't be written because it runs afoul of
an author's stand against fanfiction (but its plot influences a lot
of other things in the Walk, so I can't just replace it with something
else).  Drunkard's Walk III and IV are on hold pending plot revisions.

Still, I found it interesting as a sequel to the latter - I'll have to
dig up the earlier parts of DW later.
