That doesn't sound like a battle axe though it is a pole arm.

Actually, it sounds like one of those Hollywood movie Headsman's Axes.  
You know, a HUGE double-bladed axe, sometimes as much as 5' tall.  A 
poleaxe has a light head that can be wielded like a spear.  A battleaxe 
is just for hacking things up.

By the way, the R.O.D. series is steam-punk, like "Big-O" so you have to 
expect some masive anachronisms.
