Hyatt waved weakly from the tile beside her senior. "Hail."
"Good morning, members of ACROSS," Il Palazzo greeted them. "But
I
have some bad news for you today. Excel, I will not be needing your
services from now on."

Can grab Haruka from FLCL. She's even more manic than Excel.

Perhaps... maybe there's something to be said for bringing in a bunch of
random girls from various series. But with no common link, there's no
point to the story. Then again, so it could be said of QEFEFZ.

"Very well done, Yukari. I will miss you."

No he won't.

No, but there are some things that must be said even if they're not
meant.

"Oh, yeah," said Osaka. "My bad. I was thinking of the ice cream
factory."

People don't try to take over the world from there either. They do it
at
Starbucks.

Well, the upside is that Starbucks is the single greatest force opposing
the Clothing Event Horizon.

Hyatt swung a small mallet against a giant gong, producing an
almost
inaudible ring. "Yay!"

Heh. At least she said it loudly enough to merit an exclamation point.

I think I was thinking of a sound effect from Torin's Passage there. And
nobody has any clue what I'm talking about.

Il Palazzo crumpled the paper and threw it at Chiyo. It bounced
off
her head like a volleyball.

Heh. They do bounce off her head well. Bounce off Osaka's noggin
pretty good
too.

I managed to use a few references from the actual series.

Il Palazzo sighed and pulled the rope. "They always fail at the
Puchuu."

Heh. Cute manner of failure.

I believe it was the scene that actually inspired me to write the fic.
Tomo was a pretty obvious first choice, and once I got Sakaki's scene
envisioned, there was no way to let it go.

"An impressive resume," said Il Palazzo. "You sound like a
perfect
candidate."
"Hey, you can't pick her!" shouted a muffled voice from far below
the floor. "She's from Nyamo's class. NYAMO'S CLASS!"
"I see," said Il Palazzo. "How unfortunate." He pulled the rope,

Heh, heh, heh. Very amusing.

About the only thing I could think of for Kagura, really. Her
personality seems to center around her competetive nature, and there's
not much to stop Il Palazzo from hiring her otherwise.

"Oh, sure," said Chihiro. "Just forget I exist. Everyone else
does."

She was only in the first two episodes, cursed to be too mundane to
be of
any use. :)

Actually, she shows up in some later episodes. But she's not named or
referred to or important at all. Generic nameless girls have parts of
equal importance in those episodes.

"Then will you give her the job?" asked Chiyo.
"I think I will," said Il Palazzo.

Getting desperate, isn't he?

Well, by this point, I was looking for a way to end it and left out a
gag that I'd really wanted to use but couldn't find a way to fit in. It
wasn't until I read this comment that I thought of the perfect setup.

Il Palazzo sighed. "Very well. Hyatt, see how she handles the
Puchuu."
Hyatt offered the Puchuu to Osaka, who stared at it blankly. "What
kind of dog is that?" Osaka asked, poking it.
    "Puchuu!" said the Puchuu.
Osaka blinked. "It's a talking dog?" She smiled broadly. "Hey, try
to say my name, dog! It's Osaka. Can you say that? O-sa- Wait a minute,
that's not my name. What was my name again?"
"Puchuu!" the Puchuu repeated, flaunting its eyelashes and preening
cutely.
Osaka grabbed the sides of its mouth and pulled it open wide.
    "Fushuu?"
She peered down its throat and frowned. "Hey, where do you put the
batteries?" She grabbed the Puchuu from Hyatt and turned it over,
staring intently at its posterior.
The Puchuu frantically wriggled out of her grasp and ran away on all
fours.
"She seems to be able to handle them," said Il Palazzo.

"Maybe this is a dream too." Osaka sleepily reached up and yanked
on
one of Chiyo's pigtails. The floor under Tomo vanished, dumping her,
desk and all, into a dark pit.

HAHAHAHA. I did not see that one coming. Great way to end things as
that was
probably the best jokein the lot.

Well, I always try to save the best for last.

Thanks for the comments... I might have to work with that Osaka/Puchuu
scene and revise my webpage version.
