They aren't corrupt, they're in the "wrong" character set. You probably
edited the text in UTF-8. In Windows, if you set the system to UTF-8,
all text editors use that by default. For best compatibility between OSes
and Platforms (PC vs Mac), you should always write in the Western
ISO-8859-1 character set.
